Tokelau language week🇹🇰

                               tokekau language week

There’s a spirit in the tree. If you have the gift, you will hear its whispering, letting you know if your midwifery talents will born a vaka to sail the South Seas.

But that art and skill of a traditional Tokelau vaka master carver is fast disappearing. Fortunately, a Creative New Zealand initiative has led to one such rare individual coming to Aotearoa and will showcase, demonstrate and share his knowledge as part of an annual Pacific cultural and artistic exchange which coincides perfectly with Tokelau Language Week.

The total population of New Zealand in 1914 was just over one million. In all, more than 120,000 New Zealanders enlisted, and around 100,000 served overseas. Most were young men, and nearly one in five who served abroad did not return.
World War II was the deadliest military conflict in history. Deaths directly caused by the war (including military and civilians killed) were estimated at 50–56 million people, while there were an additional estimated 19 to 28 million deaths from war-related disease and famine. Civilian deaths totalled 50-55 million. There was one soldier named Privet Doss who was known for his bravery because he was deployed to the most bloodiest of the war areas. it was a close battle with their enemies, the Japanese, and there were heavy and strong guns. The beach he and his team were on was called Okinawa where more than 100-thousand Japanese died and Piles of bodies after a trench storming. Verdun 1916, WWI | Verdun ...
only 7 thousand US troopers had died. This was because the Japanese had a poor idea to always rush the enemy. It worked but their poor idea came to and end when the US had finally turned the tables and they rushed the Japanese with everything they had got. They could only get half of Okinawa so they decided to spend the night at their new stop and wipe out the rest of the ridge when the sun rose.

Little did they know that the enemies had more troops to rush them. When sun rise finally came, the US was about to wipe out the rest but then the tables turned again and the Japanese pushed the US back and where they began. There were too many Japanese so the US had to fall back and retreat. BUT, there was this one young brave man named Desmond Doss who asked God," What do you want from me?" Then out of nowhere he heard screams for help and he said," OK," and ran back in to the hell fire. The rest of his team fell back and each person he saved, he asked the Lord," Please help me get one more Lord". He saved all that he could and saved a
total of 75 wounded men.

How the Polynesians navigate using stars

Back in the days polys used stars sun and the sea to navigate Traditional Polynesian navigators position themselves mainly by the stars using whats called a star compass Navigators steer their waka toward a star on the horizon When that star rises too high in the sky or sets beneath the horizon another is chosen and so on through the night

When sailing out on the open seas in their dugout voyaging canoes Polynesians would navigate by using the stars and all of the elameants  around them  In addition to following the path of the stars navigators would use the currents and wave patterns to determine their direction and heading

What i have learnt is that polys were really smart to have used Mother natural to navigate From place to place

Egg drop

Today in science we had to make a parachute that is secured and that will save the egg so we made a structure That we thought would save the egg from falling but my egg parachute did not save the egg because ours fell on it side so if i could remake this in the future i would and i would put more padding every where so that if it will fall in any way it would be safe. the best part about my structure was that it went down smoothly but the landing was not so smooth but at least i tried!.

Materials!

-Kaaba stick   10x  used for   structure

-Foam 10x the foam absorbed most of the impact

-Rubber bands 10x helped it stay in place

- ice block sticks 10x Used to help keep parachute in place

- rubbish bag 1x used as the parachute

My over all reflection is good because we soled out. And a downer about our business was our teams lack of work our employs keep leaving and then coming back so next year if we could not slack off work that would be amazing

Hello readers throughout the past Mt Tr Ts Ht and Cb have            been doing research on aotearoa/new Zealand's history.

Maori population in the late 18s 60-70 thousand

The major causes of World War II                                             were numerous. They include the                                         impact of the Treaty of Versailles following WWI,                      the worldwide economic                                                          depression, failure of appeasement, the rise of                         militarism in Germany and                                                     japan, and the failure of the League of Nations.

In 1642, Dutch navigator Abel Tasman                                   became the first European to discover the                              South Pacific island group that later became                          known as New Zealand. ... Whalers,                                      missionaries, and traders followed, and in 1840                      Britain formally annexed the islands and                                   established New Zealand's first permanent                          European settlement at Wellington.
