Climate Chaos

Title

The Water Cycle & The Water Cycle (with Carbon Dioxide)

Purpose

Trying to work out the Water Cycle & Water Cycle with Carbon Dioxide

Materials

Bag 1
  • 1x ziplock bag
  • 1x vivid pen
  • 1 cup Coldwater
  • 2 drops of blue food colouring

Bag 2
  • 1x ziplock bag
  • 1x vivid pen
  • 1 cup Coldwater
  • 2 drops of blue food colouring
  • 1x litmus paper
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Steps

Bag 1
  1. Get a ziplock bag and a vivid pen
  2. Draw the water cycle (label the parts of the water cycle)
  3. Carefully pour 1 cup of cold water
  4. Carefully drop 2 drops of blue food colouring
  5. Stick the ziplock bag in a window where it receives sunlight.

Bag 2
  1. Get a ziplock bag and a vivid pen
  2. Draw the water cycle
  3. Carefully pour 1 cup of cold water
  4. Carefully drop 2 drops of blue food colouring
  5. Carefully put 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  6. Stick the ziplock bag in a window where it receives sunlight

Conclusion

Experiment 1:
I think that the outcome of this experiment will be…

I think that nothing will happen because the water will go up and down as a cycle.

Experiment 2:
I think that the outcome of this experiment will be…

In the second bag, I think that the colour will change because there is the baking soda and the litmus paper which changes the colour also adds carbon dioxide to the bag

Hurumanu-The Future

Hurumanu: Climate Change and the future
Aim; To look at the different ways we can prevent climate change in the future.

floods more chance of a cyclone blocked roads

What else do we need to think about?
places near rivers and homes near the beach.

What other places around NZ will be affected?
What places will be affected? Pacifist Island NZ different Places.

What does this do to our drinking water?
we don't have much good water left and it will turn bad.

What are the main concerns?
Climate change can also result from external forcing, when events outside of the climate system's components nonetheless produce changes within the system. Examples include changes in solar output and volcanic. Human activities can also change the climate, and are presently driving climate change through global warming.

What can we do?
  1. 1. Speak up!
  2. 2. Power your home with renewable energy.
  3. 3. Weatherize,
  4. 4. Invest in energy-efficient appliances.
  5. 5. Reduce water waste.
  6. 6. Actually, eat the food you buy—and make less of it meat.
  7. 7. Buy better bulbs.
  8. 8. Pull the plug's

What is the one, silver bullet solution?

There is no silver bullet

What is the mix of things we need to start doing?
  1. Getting to be able to use renewable
  2. Solar heating
  3. Transport
What are 3 others you can think of?
  1. Recycling
  2. Cycling
  3. Reusing items (plastic bags, plastic objects, things which might not be used, etc.)

Ecological Handprint The Ecological handprint builds on the concepts from the Carbon Footprint. We will look at the positive actions of:

  1. Transportation
  2. Community
  3. Consumption
  4. Water
  5. Food
  6. Home
  7. Waste

Solar oven - Hurumanu

Aim: To make a solar powered oven.

Materials:

  1. cello tape 1x
  2. ruler 1x
  3. glad rap 1x
  4. tin foil 1x
  5. pizza box 1x
  6. newspaper 4x
  7. black paper 1x
  8. vivid maker 1x
Steps:
  1. Line out the top of your pizza box using a ruler and a vivid maker 5cm each side if more it wont function as it should be and the top.
  2. Then cut out your box using your sizer's follow the line you drew.
  3. After that cut you some tin foil and rap it make sure to tape the tin foil to the top.
  4. the open the pizza box a put the same size of glad rap as the door and tape it down so that no air can enter or exit and to keep the heat in side and not renewing it every time
  5. Put your black paper inside of the bottom of the pizza box
  6. put your 4 papers on each side's of the box and tape the together
  7. Ill link a video to show you how it should look like just Click hear.

My Investigation on climate change

    ACIDIFICATION

DEFINITION:But overfishing and global warming threaten to leave oceans barren. The ocean is a continuous body of salt water that covers more than 70 percent of the Earth's surface.

What is happening to the oceans?

Carbon dioxide (CO2 ) is produced every day and absorbed by the oceans. As CO2 reacts with seawater, it lowers pH and reduces the concentration of carbonate ions. Motor vehicles and other transportation-related sources produce CO2.The ocean contains about 97% of all the water on Earth. The ocean plays a starring role in whatever happens with the environment. One big part of its role is to soak up energy (heat) and distribute it more evenly around the Earth.

What does this do to shellfish Higher temperatures and lower salinity will result in a habitat favored by microscopic bacteria in the oceans. More bacteria will impact marine species higher up the food chain. ... These can accumulate in shellfish such as mussels and oysters, putting the humans who eat them at risk.

Definition Ocean acidification refers to decreasing levels of pH in the ocean, which makes the sea more acidic. It is the long-term change in seawater chemistry due to the absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Roughly 30 percent of human-made CO2 is absorbed by the oceans.

HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACIDIFICATION OF OUR OCEANS?Ocean acidification refers to decreasing levels of pH in the ocean, which makes the sea more acidic. DEFINITION:Trees and forests provide a habitat for many species of animals and plants. Tropical rainforests are among the most biodiverse habitats in the world. Trees provide shade and shelter, timber for construction, fuel for cooking and heating, and fruit for food as well as having many other uses.

What are trees used for? oxygen

HOW DOES DEFORESTATION AFFECT THE CLIMATE?Trees provide them shelter from the weather and from enemies. Trees provide food in the form of fruits, nuts, leaves, bark, and roots. Even dead trees provide shelter and food for many insects.

    ICE CAP MELT

DEFINITION:If all the ice melted what would happen? If all the ice covering Antarctica , Greenland, and in mountain glaciers around the world were to melt, sea level would rise about 70 meters (230 feet). The ocean would cover all the coastal cities. And land area would shrink significantly. ... That's because the ice doesn't just melt.

HOW DOES ICE CAP MELT AFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE?The primary cause of this phenomenon is ice-albedo feedback, whereby melting ice uncovers darker land or ocean beneath, which then absorbs more sunlight, causing more heating.

    WATER VAPOUR

DEFINITION:Increased water vapor content in the atmosphere is referred to as a feedback process. Warmer air is able to hold more moisture. As the climate warms, air temperatures rise, more evaporation from water sources and land occurs, thus increasing the atmospheric moisture content.Apr 27, 2016

HOW DOES  WATER VAPOUR AND EVAPORATION CONTRIBUTE TO CLIMATE CHANGE?

It is known that climate affects the ocean and the ocean affects the climate. Due to climate change, as the ocean gets warmer this too has an effect on the seafloor. Because of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, this warming will have an effect on the bicarbonate buffer of the ocean.
